2 PAC constables held for assault

Two constables of Lucknow-based 35 battalion of PAC were arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting two of their seniors and refusing to attend the duty assigned to them.

Two constables of Lucknow-based 35 battalion of PAC were arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting two of their seniors and refusing to attend the duty assigned to them.

The Commandant of the battalion,A Satish Ganesh,said the incident took place on August 31 and a case was registered against the erring constables at the Mahanagar police station on September 1. The FIR was lodged against the constables under IPC sections of 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt),504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace),506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and sections 6-c (misbehaving with seniors) and 7-d,e (insubordination and refusing to attend the duty) of the PAC Act.

The arrest was made on Friday after the investigation found the PAC men guilty,he added.

Ganesh said the incident happened when the two constables of F company — Rohit Kumar and Ashutosh Mishra — were assigned a sentry duty by duty clerk Harinath Singh.

He said since it was a night duty the constables refused to attend to the same and abused Harinath.

Then they assaulted the duty clerk and also attacked the officiating in-charge of their company,Udaivir Singh,when he intervened,the Commandant said.

The Subedar Major of the battalion,Ram Ashray,lodged the complaint with the police and a case was registered later.

The constables who were produced before the court today were sent in judicial custody,Ganesh said.A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the constables,said Ganesh.
