2 Meerut varsity students shot dead

Two students of Chaudhary Charan Singh University were shot dead while a youth suffered injuries in an exchange of fire between two groups of students in the Civil Lines area of Meerut late on Monday night.

Meerut SSP K Satya Narayan said fight over friendship with a girl led to the firing.

The two victims,identified as Rahul and Shivam,along with two other youths,were in a car when they saw a group of five youths near the Saket petrol pump. Their driver Sanjay told the police that the four asked him to stop and walked to the petrol pump. Rahul and Shivam shook hands with the youths and began talking.

Within minutes,both groups entered into an altercation and exchanged fire in which Rahul and Shivam were hit. The two youths accompanying them escaped while driver Sanjay hid at the petrol pump.

Sanjay said the youths who shot Rahul and Shivam drove away on motorcycles. Both victims received two bullets each.

Another youth,Abhinav,who had come to petrol pump,was hit on the head with pistol butt by the assailants.

Additional SP (ASP) City Om Prakash said Rahul had a dispute with another student over friendship with a girl who works at a city call centre. The ASP said Rahul was a student of BA (I) while Shivam had finished his graduation and was about to take admission in BEd.
