About two hours after the incident, Sajid was gunned down in an alleged police encounter. UP Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar told The Indian Express that Sajid was shot dead when he opened fire on the police team pursuing him.
Inspector General of Police, Bareilly range, Rakesh Singh, said the motive behind the incident was yet to be determined. An FIR has been registered against two persons, Sajid and his brother Javed, on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Vinod Singh, at the Civil Lines Police station. They have been booked under IPC sections 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 302 (murder), and 307 (attempt to murder). IGP Rakesh Singh said that the involvement of Javed is being probed.
According to police, Sajid’s shop is located near the boys’ home in Baba Colony, Civil Line police station area, in Badaun. The boys’ father is a contractor, while their mother, Sangeeta, has a beauty parlour.
Sajid went to Singh’s house at about 7.45 pm on Tuesday, police said. At the time, Singh had reportedly gone to the market, while his wife was at her beauty parlour. The boys were at home with their paternal grandmother, police said.

Piyush, who sustained minor injuries, managed to escape and alerted the rest of the family. As the family raised an alarm, Sajid fled from the area.
At about 10 pm, Sajid was gunned down in Shekupur area, about 7 kms from the victims’ house.
Following the boys’ killings, protesters vandalised Sajid’s shop and set it ablaze. Two makeshift shops were also set on fire. Additional police personnel were deployed, and the situation was brought under control.
