The case dates back to May 2008 when the bodies of three youths were found near the Hindon River at Balaini, on the border of Baghpat and Meerut districts. It was alleged that Sheeba was in a relationship with Izlal, the main accused. Sunil Dhaka, who studied at Meerut University with Sheeba, also allegedly became close to her, which was not liked by Izlal. With Sheeba’s help, Sunil and his two friends were called to Izlal’s home in the Gudri Bazaar area of Meerut where they were killed and their bodies were later dumped in the river.

The gruesome murders led to protests with college students calling for a shutdown of Meerut.
