The employees of a spinning mill clashed with management officials today in Chilhuatal area of Gorakhpur district. A security guard and some outsiders also resorted to firing during the incident,in which 17 workers suffered pellet injuries.
While the employees got a case registered against factory owner Nikhil Jalan and the security guard who was arrested later,a cross FIR was also lodged on the complaint of the management against the workers and five of the locals at the local police station.
Deputy Inspector General of Gorakhpur Mukesh Shukla said that about 400 employees staged a demonstration outside the Ankur Udyog Ltd,a unit manufacturing polyester yarn,in the morning. The employees asked the management to revoke the suspension of 18 of the employees. As the management refused to meet the demand, the employees allegedly crashed the gates of the factory and started pelting stones. The security guard then opened fire to disperse the workers causing pellet injuries to a few of them.
Meanwhile,Jalan told The Indian Express that the employees had declared closure of the factory for four days on the occasion of May Day on their own from April 30. The management displayed a notice at the factory on April 30 issuing warning that disciplinary action would be initiated against those who did not resume work after May 1. However,Jalan said, the employees did not return to work even till yesterday and the management suspended 18 of the workers for forcing the other workers not to join work.
