Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that work for the Eastern freight corridor of the Railways would start next week and it will be done without any assistance from any financial institution.
This is a project that can create employment in Eastern India, and I believe that with Rs 200 crore budgetary allotment we can start it. Before inauguration of the project next week,I will meet the industrialists concerned, Banerjee said during an interview with a private TV channel on Thursday.
Banerjee was explaining her view on way to create job opportunities in the region, especially in Bengal. Earlier she had said that once the Trinamool Congress is in the seat of power in Bengal,at least one million youths will get employment.
Citing her plans for implementing the dedicated freight corridor Banerjee said, the corridor will attract industry in the state and will create employment.
The youths of Kolkata are going outside the state for jobs, now the time has come when they will find jobs in their own state. Once the corridor is in existence,I believe that industries will come up. For the first phase,I have plans to complete 50 kilometer stretch between Dankuni and Palsit, she said.
On November 13 or 14 the foundation will be laid, she added. She said that for the Western corridor soft loans will be available, but no such loan or assistance was finalised for the Eastern corridor. The Railways has adopted a new policy that private parties can invest in the project and the Railway will share the cost of track development.
