Woman ‘raped’ at gunpoint

Canning: A woman was allegedly raped by a history-sheeter at a gunpoint at her home at Amtala village in South 24-Paraganas on late Monday night. Police said the man first threatened the woman’s teenage nephew,who was sleeping on the verandah outside,before forcing his way into her room and raping her. The husband of the 30-year-old woman is a daily wage earner and was away for work. Police have arrested the man after an FIR was lodged. However,the gun is yet to be found,police said. The woman was medically examined during on Tuesday.

8 killed as car collides with bus

Jalpaiguri: Eight members of a wedding party were killed and five others injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a bus near Lakshipara tea estate in Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday .Eight occupants of the vehicle,including its driver,died on the spot,while five others were injured,said police. The injured included three bus passengers.
