West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday suffered a “major” injury on her forehead after slipping at her residence, according to TMC sources. She was rushed to SSKM hospital and was currently under treatment.
TMC sources said the party chief had returned to her Harish Chatterjee street residence from an event when she slipped. “She was walking in her drawing room when she suddenly slipped and fell down, and her head hit a glass showcase. This led to a deep cut on her forehead and profuse bleeding,” a senior TMC leader said.
Following the news of her accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished quick recovery for the TMC leader. “I pray for a quick recovery and the best health for Mamata Didi,” the PM said in a post on X.

This is the second time this year that the West Bengal Chief Minister was involved in a “major” accident. Earlier in January, she escaped with minor injuries after a car accident was averted during her tour of East Burdwan on January 24. According to police sources, Banerjee was returning to Kolkata after presiding over an administrative meeting in Burdwan. Near the Burdwan city, her convoy encountered what she claimed was a car speeding at 200 kmph. Banerjee’s driver applied the brakes but her head hit the dashboard, leading to swelling and concussion, she said.
