West Bengal Advocate General resigns
Sources said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had last Monday called on Law Minister Malay Ghatak for a meeting following which Ghatak is learnt to have sent a message to Mukherjee, asking him to resign.
Ghatak is also believed to have called Dutta, who according to sources, did not attend the minister's call and instead phoned an MP from the state to seek his advice. (File)		West Bengal Advocate General Soumendranath Mukherjee on Friday tendered his resignation, a senior government official said. Mukherjee, who did not specify any reason for the resignation, was appointed as the state Advocate General in September 2021 by replacing senior advocate Kishore Dutta.
“He is currently abroad and sent his resignation through an email,” said the official, adding that Kishore Dutta may rejoin as the AG.

A senior minister said, “The state government was not happy with Mukherjee as it lost almost all cases in the Calcutta High Court under his stewardship.”
