Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday refuted allegations of ‘step-motherly’ treatment to TMC-ruled West Bengal and said that the BJP-led government at the Centre never differentiates between states ruled by non-BJP parties.

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Mandaviya listed the achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government, which recently completed nine years in office.

The Union Minister said that Prime Minister Modi had successfully taken the country forward in various directions. He also said the Modi government had not only strengthened democracy by empowering the marginalised sections in the past nine years but had also taken “revolutionary steps” for the welfare of the people.

“We don’t believe in differentiating between states just for political reasons. The Centre is committed to the overall development of West Bengal. Funds will never be an issue when it comes to development and people’s welfare. We are always ready to extend all sorts of help to the state government,” he said. His remarks come in the backdrop of repeated allegations by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing the Centre of withholding funds due to the state.
Talking about the Covid vaccination programme rolled out by the Centre, he said, “Over 220 crore people were vaccinated under the programme which has been appreciated globally and by developed countries too.”

“Eighty crore people were given free ration during the pandemic. Through ‘One Nation One Ration Card’, any person can pick up ration from anywhere. People are getting free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakhs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The Prime Minister is himself monitoring the scheme,” the Union minister said, adding that the central government was providing medicines to people at a lower cost at more than 9,300 Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

He claimed that the BJP-led Centre has worked out a system to provide tap water to everyone. “Now, more than three crore houses have got their own water taps,” he said.

He stressed on how the country has witnessed development in every sector with the mantra of “nation first” under PM Modi’s leadership.
