Two terror suspects held in Barasat

Two suspected terrorists were arrested on Saturday after they were detained in Barasat in North 24-Parganas last night.

Two suspected terrorists were arrested on Saturday after they were detained in Barasat in North 24-Parganas last night.

Acting on a tip-off,the police picked up Halil Ahmed Bhat and Rameez Ahmed Bhundi,both residents of Srinagar,from their rented apartment in Palpukuria owned by one Ahmed Gajhi. The duo was produced in Barasat CGM court,which sent them to police custody for six days.

“During interrogation,they admitted to their involvement in carrying out several blasts in Jammu and Kashmir. They were trained in Pakistan. We have intimated the Jammu and Kashmir police and a team from there will reach the city today to take them on transit remand,” said a senior police officer.

The police also recovered two revolvers,explosives and four rounds of bullets from them. In addition,several secret documents on India have also been recovered,said the officer.

“We have found several maps of the city and the district. These are designs indicating various ways of sneaking into the country from the Bangladesh borders. According to locals,the arrested persons never socialised with people here,” said the officer,adding that the two operated in the area as Kashmiri Shawl sellers.

Superintendent of Police,North 24-Parganas,Rahul Srivastav said: “We are looking into the matter and have contacted the Kashmir police.”
