Mitra had complained to the police of receiving a call threatening to kill her and her family members for not paying Rs 50 lakh to the KLO.
Two persons were arrested Thursday for allegedly making threatening calls to Social Welfare Minister Sabitri Mitra in Malda, a senior police officer said.
Both the accused – Kamal Sarkar and Zakir Hussain – have confessed to making threatening calls and demanding Rs 50 lakh from Mitra, Superintendent of Police Kalyan Mukherjee said.
Sarkar hails from Ratua area of Malda, while Zakir Hussain is a resident of Balarampur area of the district, the SP said.
The SP further said the duo have no links with Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), which was initially suspected to have made the threatening calls to Mitra.

Top KLO militant arrested
Police Wednesday arrested a senior KLO militant, carrying a cash reward of Rs 10,000 on his head, in Malda. Kumud Mondal alias Jhakasu (26), a top KLO militant, was arrested Wednesday night from Habibpur area of the district, Superintendent of Police Kalyan Mukherjee said.
