A day after TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy was attacked during his Jana Sanjog Yatra, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar Saturday said the ruling party was trying to divide the tribal and Kudmi communities and, wrongly blaming the saffron camp for the incident.

Speaking to reporters at Tarapith in Birbhum district, Majumdar said, “The TMC is trying to initiate a fight between the tribal and Kudmi communities.

Their own workers might have orchestrated the attack but their leaders are busy holding us responsible for it. We don’t believe in violence. We believe in resolving people’s issues through discussions.”

On Friday, West Bengal Minister of State for Forests Birbaha Hansda was injured on Friday as her vehicle was vandalised when the convoy of the TMC general secretary was attacked. Banerjee accused the BJP of staging the attack on his and party leader Hansda’s convoy.

“I believe that some miscreants from BJP disguised as members of the Kudmi community are behind this attack to malign TMC’s campaign. They were even chanting Jai Shri Ram. Members of the Kudmi community do not chant such slogans,” Banerjee had alleged.

Taking a dig at the TMC leader, Majumdar said, “Both Abhishek Banerjee and CM Mamata Banerjee often hear the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan. Now, they are complaining that such slogans are being raised wherever they are going. They are suffering from BJP phobia. When they feel scared, they hear such slogans,” said the BJP MP.
