Those returning awards are themselves intolerant: Bengal BJP chief Rahul Sinha

“A handful people are returning their awards over a little incident which happened at one corner of the country. These moves are politically motivated," says Sinha.

Referring to intellectuals and actors returning their awards protesting against alleged intolerance in the country, state BJP president Rahul Sinha said that these people were intolerant themselves.

“A handful people are returning their awards over a little incident which happened at one corner of the country. These moves are politically motivated. People who had won these awards had in many cases been political appointees and had beaten the other deserving contenders only because of their political connections. They raise their voice only when there is an attack on Muslims. They lose their voice when a Hindu is attacked or killed,” Sinha said at a press conference Thursday.

Alleging that this act of returning awards was a planned move of the Opposition parties to unsettle the Modi government at the Centre, Sinha said, “Where where these intellectuals when there was anti-Sikh riots in 1984? Why are the so-called intellectuals trying to create a Hindu-Muslim divide in the country? I agree to what TMC MP Moon Moon Sen had said two days ago that Modi should be given some more time before we start judging him.”
