Hinting at political links in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh on Tuesday met Finance Minister P Chidambaram and presented to him “certain details about the case”.

“It is now amply clear to everyone that the scam is not just about the running of a chit fund company or media houses, but has another glaring side to it. I am satisfied with the meeting I had with the finance minister regarding this,” Ghosh told The Indian Express after the meeting.

Sources said he has handed over certain documents to Chidambaram but was unwilling to disclose the exact nature of his dialogue.

The suspended MP has been interrogated by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office, the Enforcement Directorate as well as the Kolkata Police over his alleged involvement in the scam.

Based on inputs from Ghosh, the SFIO has even conducted raids in multiple places in Kolkata. He had in the past said that he might be forced to reveal something that could be a source of discomfort to the ruling party in the state.

“I did not ask for any immunity. I am willing to cooperate with the agencies in the probe. I,however, sought some financial assistance for a heritage library in Kolkata where Tagore was first felicitated after receiving the Nobel Prize,” Ghosh, who was the CEO of the media arm of Saradha, said.

Chidambaram had met TMC general secretary Mukul Roy a few days ago reportedly to discuss a financial relief for West Bengal.
