“The police are in no mood to cooperate with us. Section 144 of the CrPC has not been imposed where we are and where we want to go, still they are stopping us. We told them that only three of us will go to Rishra on foot. Still, they are not allowing us. This police works on the orders of the TMC,” Majumder told reporters on Monday.

“…Police are not allowing me to visit the area as they want to hide the truth…I was not allowed to visit the area because Section 114 of CrPc was in force but TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was walking around there. The police have become slaves.” Later, he also sat on a dharna for over five hours where he was stopped by the police. Led by Majumdar, BJP leaders blocked the road, however, they withdrew the dharna later. “We left the road, so that the common man would not be inconvenienced,” Majumdar said.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged “Samim Ahmed, the husband of a TMC councilor, is responsible for the Shibpur violence in Howrah. He is the ward president of TMC. TMC Sakir Ali and vice chairman of Rishra municipality Zahid Hasan Khan are involved in the incident that occurred here.”

Reacting to the allegations, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said, “People were brought from outside for the Ram Navami processions. The incident was provoked by the procession. BJP leader Dilip Ghosh was present during the procession in Rishira and he is responsible for the whole incident.”
