Two days after the CBI concluded a 15-hour-long search at his residence in connection with the school recruitment scam in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress’s Tehatta MLA Tapas Saha on Sunday alleged that he is a victim of a “conspiracy” hatched by his own party colleagues.
Accompanied by central paramilitary force personnel, the central agency had scrutinised files and documents at Saha’s house and office on the same premises. The team seized his mobile phone besides questioning him as part of the probe into the matter.
Many of the MLA’s associates, including his former assistant, have been questioned by the central agency.
“Our fight is against the BJP. But a section of the TMC is fighting against me to benefit the BJP. No party can run like this. An organisation cannot run with employees. Strong leadership is needed to run the organisation,” he said.
Reacting to cabinet minister Firhad Hakim’s recent remark without naming him, Saha said, “I don’t need training on how the party works. I want to know what action is being taken against the man who talked to the press against a party MLA. He is not even member of the district committee. With whose support he made such comments?”
Hakim had said, “If you are not at fault then you should stand firm and face the situation. Public representatives should be well prepared of any kind of situation.”
Saha further said that he will be able to ensure the TMC’s victory in his area during the state panchayat elections.
“The party’s district president is almost inactive due to illness. The co-ordinators don’t keep track on any organisational matters. Other senior leaders don’t show any interest in the organisation in rural areas,” he said.
It is his party that needs him and not the other way round, he claimed.
He, however, expressed confidence in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying, “I have her blessings.”
On TMC general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, he said, “I don’t know since I am not allowed to enter his office or contact him on phone.”
TMC MP Shantanu Sen said, “If he has any problem he should raise it at the right place instead of speaking to the media. Our party is organised and disciplined.”
