The CBI on Sunday sent the mobile phone of NYSA’s former vice-president Niladri Dasre for forensic examination — two days after he was arrested in Kolkata over his alleged role in the WBSSC recruitment scam. NYSA was roped in by the WBSSC for evaluation of OMR sheets of candidates appearing for its recruitment exams.

Sources said Dasre is believed to be close to former WBSSC chairman Subiresh Bhattacharya, who was arrested in the case last year. “Dasre and his team were allegedly involved in manipulating OMR sheets for Group C, Group D, classes IX, X and XI and XII teachers,” said CBI, adding that the alleged manipulation was committed in altogether 8,163 sheets.

According to officials, Dasre was earlier arrested by the West Bengal CID in connection with a fraud case in 2019. He was later released on bail.

Dasre had been under CBI’s scanner since 2022 when the agency raided NYSA’s offices in New Delhi and Ghaziabad. According to CBI sources, Dasre was allegedly in touch with several education department officials through  former WBSSC advisor Shanti Prasad Sinha. Sources added that it is suspected that financial transactions of more than Rs 1 crore had taken place in the bribe-for-jobs scam under Dasre.
