President Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to West Bengal starting Monday, officials said. This would be the President’s first visit to the state after she assumed office in 2022.
On the first day of her visit, the President would be visiting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s residence Netaji Bhavan and Jorasanko Thakurbari, where Rabindranath Tagore lived. She is also likely to attend a programme organised by a nationalised bank later during the day.
According to state government officials, West Bengal Chief Minister would be felicitating Murmu during an event to be organised at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Monday. On Day 2 of her visit, she is likely to visit Belur Math before travelling to Shantiniketan in Birbhum district. During her visit to Shantiniketan, she will also visit Visva-Bharati University which was founded by Tagore and is supposed to attend the convocation of the varsity before returning to Delhi, officials added.
Security has been beefed up in various parts of the state ahead of the President’s two-day visit. A team of forest department officials has been called in to Visva Bharati University to catch snakes that are reportedly a frequent site on the campus. Officials said snake charmers have also been called to catch snakes.
Meanwhile, a joint platform of state government employees demanding DA hike has started a mass email programme. They will send a mail also to the President.
