The political clashes that erupted in the villages of Khanakul in Hooghly district after a Trinamool Congress was killed allegedly by CPM supporters have refused to die down. Even the promulgation of Section 144 to maintain peace in the area on Thursday has failed and the district police have now called for an all-party meeting to bring peace. Samiran Roy,a sub-divisional police officer posted in Khanakul, said that a huge contingent of policemen has been deployed in the disturbed areas, including Jakri village where the Trinamool leader Judistir Dolui was killed on Wednesday. Meanwhile, local administration has stepped up efforts to bring back nearly 600 people, who left their homes after the clashes broke out. A large number of residents in Jakri,Sarda and Kabilpur, mostly CPM supporters, had fled their homes since violence broke out in the area. The CPM also opened up a camp at Kabilpur where currently 200 people have taken refuge. But amid this, the blame game continues between Trinamool and CPM leaders. Even today, the homes of our supporters have been attacked. Our supporters are not allowed to venture out of their homes. The CPM cadres with indirect support from the police are still attacking our supporters, said Samir Bhandari,a local Trinamool leader. CPM MLA from Khanakul Bansibadan Moitra,on the other hand, blamed Trinamool Congress for creating disturbance in the area.
