PIL seeks cut in price hike

A PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday seeking the High Court’s intervention in the recent hike of diesel price and the cap on LPG cylinders to six a year.

A PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday seeking the High Court’s intervention in the recent hike of diesel price and the cap on LPG cylinders to six a year. The PIL filed by one Ashraful Rahman,an advocate,has also challenged the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the retail sector. According to the petition,a government is bound to give relief to the citizen of the India. But the recent hike in the diesel price and the cap on LPG cylinders would affect the general public,it added. The diesel and LPG are essential commodities,so a hike in their prices should be scrapped down by the High Court,the petition added. The case is likely to come up for hearing on Friday.

Cong trade union demands roll back

Kolkata: The West Bengal unit of INTUC,the trade union of Congress party,on Tuesday demanded the government to roll back the hike in diesel price and lift the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders. State INTUC working president Ramen Pandey said the increase in prices would lead to inflation and affect the common man. Pandey also demanded the state government to reduce the sales taxes on LPG and other petroleum products.
