(Express Photo) Union Home Minister Amit Shah will undertake a day-long trip to West Bengal on Tuesday to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and inaugurate a number of development projects.
According to the tour programme shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shah will arrive in Kolkata on Monday and will spend the night at a city hotel.
On Tuesday morning, the Union Home Minister will pay tribute to Tagore by garlanding his statue at the Jorasanko Thakurbari in Kolkata. Thereafter, Shah will lay the foundation stone of and inaugurate various developmental projects of the Land Port Authority of India and the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district. In the afternoon, he will release a film, “Luminaries of Bengal”, and inaugurate various projects at the Science City in Kolkata.
In the evening, Shah will also attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Tagore at the Science City Auditorium.
This will be Shah’s second visit to West Bengal in two months. ‘
He had earlier visited the state last month and had offered prayers at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in the city on the eve of Bengali new year on April 14.
Party sources said Shah, who has set a target before the BJP to win at least 35 seats in West Bengal in next year’s general election, will make frequent visits to the state to help the party connect with the voters in the state.
