NVF constables beat up candidate during test

Sanjai Sarkhel,a candidate from Raipur,could not qualify in the 800 metres run. However,after completing the run,he tried to re-enter the track and was apprehended by the NVF guards,who beat him. Sarkhel was critically injured in the head and face and was admitted to the Durgapur sub-divisional hospital.

After Sarkhel was beaten,the candidates from Junglemahal started a protest and refused to appear for the physical test.

Sarkhel is said to have told police that after he failed to qualify in the race,he wanted to give his short pants to Somnath Mondal,a friend from his village. Mondal was about to appear in the race,and short pants are mandatory for taking the test.

NVF commandant S K Chatterjee said,“There was a protest as some of the candidates from Junglemahal wanted to reappear for the physical test after they failed to qualify. We had to remove them from the area. However,the situation is under control and we have started conducting the tests again.”
