Rejecting allegations of corruption, TMC MP and actor Nussrat Jahan on Wednesday said that she was no longer associated with the real estate company, which has been accused of duping senior citizens by promising them flats in New Town on the eastern fringes of Kolkata. Addressing mediapersons at Press Club Kolkata, the TMC MP from Basirhat said: “I am not involved in any wrongdoing or any form of fraudulent practice. I resigned as its director long back in March 2017. I don’t know why I am being falsely blamed." “I have not come here to give any clarification as I have not committed any wrong. A media trial is going on and I have to make my stand clear,” she added. A group of senior citizens on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accusing the real estate company — Seven Sense Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. — of cheating by promising them flats in the New Town area. The complainants were accompanied by BJP leader Shankudeb Panda who threatened to organise protests if action was not taken against the accused. The complainants also alleged that Jahan was the director of the said company when it had taken money from them. It was also alleged that she had siphoned off money from the company and used it to buy an apartment for herself. Countering the allegations, the TMC MP said she had taken a loan from the company and repaid it with interest in May 2017. “I had taken a loan of Rs 1,16,00,285 from this particular company. In May 2017, I repaid the amount to the company. I have the bank statements. Every detail of this is given in court. It is not a political matter. As the matter is sub-judice, I won’t make any further comment. Let the law take its own course,” Jahan, who became an MP in 2019, said before abruptly leaving the press conference. Reacting to Jahan’s comment, Panda said, “Nusrat Jahan is associated with this company which took Rs 5.50 lakh from people. The company started in 2014, but no one got any flats. The police did not even register a complaint. Finally, a case was started after these people went to court. If ED doesn't take action, I will move High Court,” said Panda. According to the complaints, Jahan is among the eight people accused in the case filed under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (acts by several people with common intention).
