Noor-e-Alam alias Shahbaz,one of the prime accused in the abduction of shoe baron Partha Pratim Roy Burman,was produced in court on Sunday after he was brought to the city by the CID from Mumbai where he was arrested. A senior CID officer said Noor-e-Alam,who was brought to the city on Saturday on transit remand,was given a police custody for 12 days. ”He was arrested by the Maharashtra Police a few days back and we have taken him into custody for interrogation,” DIG,CID (Special Operation Group) K Jayaraman said.
Noor-e-Alam,who is considered to be a close associate of Amir Reja Khan,one of the founder-members of the Indian Mujahiddin along with the Bhatkal brothers of Gujarat,is a key accused in the Partha Roy Burman kidnapping case. Alam was previously arrested by the Mumbai ATS in connection with the Mumbai serial blasts in 2006,but was later released on bail. The CID officer said they would try to find out if he had any information about IM operations in Kolkata . Partha Roy Burman,chief of Khadim shoes,was released allegedly after payment of Rs 3.75 crore ransom.
