The Delhi-based band only has one album to its credit, but Mrigya has countless performances from across the world to boast about. Not surprisingly then, the announcement of their second album has led to substantial

excitement in the contemporary fusion music circuit. While the release is scheduled in August, the fans of the band could head to the India Habitat Centre, today,to catch Mrigya in action, playing nine tracks from their forthcoming album, which is untitled till now. “Some of the tracks were composed many years ago,but we stopped performing them for various reasons,” says Indraneel Hariharan, the band’s bass guitarist. The other members include Sharat Srivastava on the violin,Gyan Singh on Indian percussion,Rajat Kakkar on drums and Sachin Kapoor on the lead guitar.

While the band’s first album Mrigya 2010,that released last year, was a fusion between Indian classical and rock music interspersed with jazz, this one promises to have more Latin and Afro influences. “With a slew of influences,we will sound more evolved but the trademark Mrigya sound will be retained,” says Srivastava. The compositions range from Saade Saat, that has an interesting rhythm pattern,to Caravan, based on Raag Kirwani, this was composed a decade back. “We have added more rhythm and music to this one,to make it more interesting,” says Hariharan. He adds,“Today’s performance is a great opportunity, because the audience will get to hear music from our second album before it actually releases.”
