Killings and violence marked the 24-hour bandh called by Maoists to protest United States President Barack Obamas visit on Monday.
In West Bengal,four villagers,including a woman,were killed by suspected Maoists early today at Ganakkata village,near Jhargram town in West Midnapore. According to a senior police officer,a group of around six Maoists attacked Ganakkata village in Jhargram in the wee hours today and dragged out Sandhyarani Mahato,Rashbihari Mahato and Sheikh Wahed Ali from their houses. The villagers were then taken away by the Maoists and their bodies were later spotted near their houses.
After preliminary investigations,it was found that Sandhyarani was killed as her son,Gauranga,is a CRPF jawan who is participating in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations in Lalgarh and adjoining areas. Wahed was shot dead as his brother had joined the state police as an assistant sub-inspector in Howrah district. And Rashbihari was punished for allegedly working as a police informer. All of them were murdered by using sharp weapons, the officer added. Meanwhile at 1.30 pm,a group of armed Maoists dragged Kanani Rai,former panchayat pradhan of Patashimul village in Jhargram and shot him dead in front of his family members.
In Bihar,two Special Auxiliary Police personnel were killed when they were trying to diffuse a bomb at Banke Bazar in Gaya,allegedly planted by Maoists. Six other personnel,two journalists and two civilians were injured in the blast. Bihar Police said they did not find any Maoists pamphlets near the bomb. Ultras had also spread rumours about planting bombs on tracks between Rafiganj and Gaya. No bomb was found and it was just a move to create panic among people before elections, DGP Neelmani said.Gaya goes to polls on November 20.
Ten wagons of a goods train derailed after suspected Naxals blew up a railway track near Kurhani railway station in Muzaffarpur.
In Orissa,bullet-riddled bodies of two persons,allegedly killed by the Maoists,were found at Timanpur-Binaypur in Nabarangpur district,SP Prafulla Barik said.
The Maoists had left hand-written posters near the bodies,alleging the two had been collecting money in their name,the SP Barik added.
In Malkangiri district,the Maoists blew up a school building,police said.
In Jharkhand,the Maoists blew up a track between Nagar Utanri Road and Karkatta stations in Garhwa and reduced to rubble Satbahini station that lies between Garhwa in Jharkhand and Dehri-en-Sone in Bihar,railway officials said. The station master was abducted. He has still not been traced, said DP Singh,Manager South Eastern Railways.
The Railways as a precautionary measure had cancelled half a dozen passenger trains such as Gomoh-Barkakana and Barwadih-Dehri-on-Sone and re-routed several trains.
The Maoists blew up the Block Development Office at Vishrampur and a panchayat in Palamau. Posters seized by police in Bokaro and Latehar said: Down with American imperialism.
