Mamata undertakes fifth roadshow,this time eyes minorities

Swarmed by supporters of all age groups and classes,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee undertook her fifth roadshow today in minority-dominated areas of Kolkata.

Swarmed by supporters of all age groups and classes,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee undertook her fifth roadshow today in minority-dominated areas of Kolkata.

With a large number of followers,Banerjee walked from Mominpur to Garden Reach,covering constituencies of Kolkata Port,Chowringhee,Maheshtala and Metiaburuz. Being minority-dominated areas,these constituencies are considered crucial for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

And it seemed Banerjee has succeeded in wooing the minorities with her promises of separate funds,department and commission for them.

Muhammad Sarfaraj,a 27-year-old student who has just returned to Mominpur from the UK after completing his MBA,said,¿We gave them (CPM) chance for a long time. Now it is time for Mamata.”

While followers,many of them on bikes,waved Trinamool flags and shouted slogans like “Ebar hobe juddho/ Bangla hobe Shuddho” (Now there will be a war/ Bengal will be purified),Mamata walked along,accompanied by Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya.

Kobita Adhikari (40),a housewife,said,“She is changing our lives for better.” Forty-three-year-old Khidderpore businessman Sheikh Sarwar Ali skipped his daily routine of attending to his cassette shop to be at the rally,which was Railway Minister’s last rally in Kolkata before she heads to north Bengal for campaigning from April 12.
