Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee took out a rally on Sunday to protest against the sale of illicit liquor in the state that claimed the lives of over 27 people last week. After the rally, which began in Mominpur and ended on Hyde Road,Mamata said: The Left Front government must accept moral responsibility for the hooch deaths and pay compensation to each of the bereaved families. The government should give each family at least Rs 20,000. It is the governments responsibility to ensure that illicit liquor is not freely available, she added. She also set the state government a deadline of January 18,by which time all trade in illicit liquor should be stopped and a ban slapped on its manufacture and sale. If the government fails to do so,we will resort to widespread agitation. I have also asked the Trinamool workers at the block level to protest against the sale of illicit liquor, Banerjee said.
