The CM informed that former Brazilian footballer and world cup-winner Ronaldinho will meet her on Monday at her residence to gift her a jersey.
The former Ballon d’Or winner footballer landed in the city on Sunday evening and will take part in a series of events, including inauguration of Durga Puja pandals.
While inaugurating Pujas, Banerjee said she also enquired about the ongoing Cricket World Cup in the country. The Chief Minister asked former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president and IPL governing council member Abhishek Dalmia, who was present at a Puja pandal, whether Eden Gardens has got good World Cup matches.
“You must be busy with the World Cup. It seems all matches have gone to Ahmedabad. How many matches has Kolkata got?” Banerjee asked.
In response, Dalmia, who is also the son of former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmia, said Eden Gardens has got five matches, including a semi-final and India versus South Africa. He also invited her to come to the stadium to watch a couple of matches. “I will see. Let me get well first. Tomorrow, Ronaldinho is coming to my house. I enjoy sports a lot. I also held talks with the La Liga during my recent visit to Spain,” said Banerjee.
The Chief Minister, who has not been taking part in events and other engagements in person, has been advised rest till recovery due to knee injury.
Meanwhile, Governor CV Ananda Bose visited several Puja mandaps later in the day. First, Bose visited Kumartuli in north Kolkata, a traditional potter and idol-makers’ colony, and interacted with artisans. Following this, he visited Ekdalia Evergreen Puja mandap in south Kolkata.
“As the Durga Puja festivities begin across Bengal, Hon
Governor took the time to visit Durga Puja pandals across Kolkata and also, spent some cherished moments interacting with devotees enjoying the festivities #DurgaPuja,” the Governor’s office wrote on his X handle.
