The Left Front leaders Thursday demanded that a new legislation should be brought for renaming New Town located in eastern fringes of the city as Jyoti Basu Nagar. Significantly,Governor M K Narayanan had said that he does not agree with the name change Bill.
We thank the Governor for his remarks. After what he had said we believe that we will get justice on the issue, Leader of Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra told media persons outside the Assembly. I am certainly not in favour of changing of name.. That is all what I can say, Narayanan had told reporters when asked about his views on the controversy over the change of name of Jyoti Basu Nagar.
The government should introduce a new Bill with an amendment and keep the name of the township as Jyoti Basu Nagar. We will continue with the movement against the government until it announces that the new Bill scrapping the name Jyoti Basu Nagar is withdrawn, he added.
Meanwhile, former housing minister Gautam Deb today told the media persons that naming Rajathat as Jyoti Basu Nagar was properly notified through issuing a gazette notification. We followed all the process and there was government notification on the website. But the notification has been taken off the web few days ago and the file on the notification is also missing, said Deb.
