Syndicate racket in Bengal: ‘Close aide of MLA’ arrested

THE BIDHANNAGAR Police has arrested an alleged close aide of a local MLA in connection to the syndicate racket in the area.

The accused, Bahar Ali Laskar, is reportedly a syndicate member operating in Baligori area of New Town. He was arrested from his residence near Laskarhati area.

Sources in police said Laskar has been accused of extortion and unleashing terror in the area. “He had reportedly been involved in several clashes that have taken place in the past, especially in Laskarhati and Mahishbathan area of Rajarhat… He has been booked in several cases for threatening and assaulting people,” said a police officer.

“In 2012, he came close to people attached with ruling party. Being a local muscleman, he had his eyes on real estate projects in the area. He is a notorious man, we have been looking for him for quite some time,” said a senior officer.
