Meanwhile, a student leader and JU research scholar Aritra Majumdar was questioned by the institute's anti-ragging committee. Sources said he was questioned about his reason for visiting the campus on August 10 – the day a first-year undergraduate student died.

Jadavpur University interim vice-chancellor Buddhadeb Sau on Wednesday said the process of installing CCTVs inside the campus and hostels has started but the “things cannot change overnight”. Speaking to reporters, Sau said, “Things cannot change overnight. I don’t have any magic spell nor I am Alif Laila. I cannot install the CCTVs within the university campus myself. There is a process. It has already started. CCTVs will be installed in all hostels. At present, they will be installed at the gates. Later, they will be installed at strategic locations.”
