A special CBI court in Alipore rejected the bail plea of former state education Minister Partha Chatterjee and extended his judicial custody till May 8 in connection with the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) scam. According to reports, Chatterjee was produced in court along with former WBSSC chairman Subiresh Bhattacharya, former head of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Kalyanmoy Gangopadhyay and former WBSSC advisor Shanti Prasad Sinha and others. Talking to reporters on reaching the Alipore court on Monday, Chatterjee said, “I was not the employer.the Minister has no role here. The recruitment is done by the board.” The former minister is currently lodged in the Presidency Correctional Home. In July 2022, the ED had raided Chatterjee’s house in Kolkata’s Naktala area in connection with the WBSSC scam. After a search and interrogation, he was arrested late at night.
