It’s important to realise when to go: Ganguly

Life is now very easy for Sourav Ganguly post retirement and he is enjoying every bit of it.

Life is now very easy for Sourav Ganguly post retirement and he is enjoying every bit of it. The former India captain feels that it’s important for every sportsperson to know when to take the last bow.

“It’s tough decision to announce one’s retirement. But it’s also important to realise when to go. One should strike a balance between going out and being pushed out,” Ganguly said during a felicitation programme in the city today with Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra and world chess champion Viswanathan Anand sitting next to him.

The Bengal left-hander doffed his hat at Anand saying that the latter has not only inspired the chess players of the country, but has been a role model for the Indian cricketers also.

“Anand is a genuine role model for everyone. I have been following him for years. In fact,it’s not just me,he has inspired all members of the Indian cricket team,” Ganguly said.

“It’s really remarkable for him. It’s not just about getting there. But the difficult thing is to stay on top for a considerable period of time. He has done it very well. There’s a lot to learn from him. I am really honoured to be with him today,” he added.
