The West Bengal Police is likely to initiate a departmental inquiry into the allegations of intimidation and high-handedness against a SP rank officer and other personnel levelled by the family of the 16-year-old girl who was gangraped twice and later set on fire,sources said.
According to top police directorate sources,the inquiry will be initiated as the victims father has already written a letter to Governor M K Narayanan alleging SP,North 24-Paraganas,Tanmoy Roy Choudhury,and an officer in charge of NSCBI airport police station of intimidating the family and asked them to leave the state for Bihar.
Contacted,G M P Reddy,the DGP,West Bengal,refused to talk on the issue. However,he later said,The government will do everything,which needs to be done legally on this mater.
Even on Friday,the victims father complained that they were not provided with any security ever since his daughter was first gangraped on October 25.
Today also,we went to the Nimtala ghat to perform the last rites,hiring a taxi. We were feeling very insecure. We have been asking for security for long but we are yet to get any. We are yet to go back to our house and are staying at the CITU office for fear of reprisal, he said.
Incidentally,the fathers allegation comes even as state Chief Secretary,Sanjay Mitra,had told the media yesterday that all assistance is being be provide to the family.
Asked about the allegations of police intimidation,Tanmoy Roy Choudhury,SP,North 24-Paraganas said,I do not talk to media persons over phone as there are chances of being misquoted.
Meanwhile,the police have sent the foetus of the minor victim to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory,Hyderabad,for determination of the age and for DNA profiling. We need to know the age of the foetus and we also need to know who was the father. The victim in her dying statement had taken names of two persons who had set her on fire. We will investigate if the criminals were already aware about her pregnancy. At present we are waiting for the report, said a senior official of Bidhannagar police commissionerate under which the airport police station falls.
The Hyderabad CFSL confirmed receiving the sample with a note from the police terming it a priority case. According to sources in the CFSL,it takes at least 72 hours to determine the age and and create a DNA profile a foetus.
