Political clashes erupt in Khejuri

Tension gripped Khejuri,in East Midnapore,on Wednesday after a series of clashes broke out between CPM and Trinamool supporters.

Exchange of fire between the rival groups continued for several hours at Kamarda and Kalagachia,said police. Sources said the violence broke out after around 100 hired goons of CPM tried to capture Kamarda and Kalagachia,which were strongholds of the party earlier. “The police raided the areas and arrested six Trinamool and one CPM workers,” said police. Two long-range rifles and 37 rounds of ammunition were also recovered. Trinamool workers also set fire to a CPM office at Kamarda.

Cops threaten to gherao Writers’

An employees association of West Bengal Police on Wednesday threatened to gherao the Writers’ Buildings if the government fails to meet its demands — one of the main demand being jobs to the next of kin of 585 policemen who died in harness,some of them while fighting Maoists. Other demands include filling up of vacant posts,modernisation of police hospitals,frequent promotions and others. “We want the government to sympathetically consider them,” said Bijitaswa Raut,secretary of the association.
