The Calcutta High Court today extended the deadline for the recruitment process for appointing primary teachers from November 30 as set by its interim order earlier to December 24 but said no appointments should be made till the entire matters is disposed of. The state government had issued a notification on August 30 for filling up posts of 56,000 primary teachers across the state through primary school councils of concerned districts. Forms were distributed from September 19 to October 23 and last date of submitting applications was October 27. However,PTTI students had filed a writ petition in the first week of September challenging the recruitment of primary teachers in districts, saying a similar process was initiated in 2006 bur was dropped later. In an interim order on September 23,Justice Saumitra Pal of the Calcutta High Court had directed the state government to fill up the posts of primary teachers up to the year 2006 with those students who had applied in that year. But the High Court did not stay the recruitment process.
