Flood situation improves,water levels recede in East Midnapore

There seems to be some improvement in the flood situation in the state with water levels receding in West Midnapore and no deaths being reported Saturday.

There seems to be some improvement in the flood situation in the state with water levels receding in West Midnapore and no deaths being reported Saturday. However,water released by DVC and Galudi barrage resulted in inundation in East Midnapore.

According to official records,DVC released 34,000 cusecs,while Galudi barrage in Jharkhand released 22,000 cusecs Saturday.

According to a senior official of the disaster management department,the number of relief camps have come down. “We are now running 187 relief camps,while we earlier had 262 relief camps,” he said.

Number of people taking shelter in such camps have also come down. Around 81,000 people took shelter in relief camps earlier,now there are around 37,700 people in camps,the official added.
