Financial help: Mitra to meet PC this week

State Finance Minister Amit Mitra will visit Delhi on September 6 to meet Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and is likely to once again pressurize the Centre to grant moratorium to West Bengal on the payment of interest amounting to Rs 25,000 crore per year on the loans taken during the Left Front government

Though Mitra termed the impending visit a “routine one”,his department officials confirmed that the minister will push for the moratorium on loan taken during the Left regime. “Several times I spoke to former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the financial issues and letters were sent to the Centre. Even Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had spoken to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue. The meeting is a part of it,” said Mitra on Monday.
