TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Friday targeted the BJP-led government at the Centre for the “non-payment” of financial dues to West Bengal. Abhishek was speaking after inaugurating Chadiyal Bridge in South 24 Parganas.

“Those who are protesting on the dearness allowance [DA] issue, I will tell them… Go to Delhi and protest. If you consider yourself a part of the state, first bring the dues that the state deserves from the Centre. We are fighting for it,” said the Diamond Harbour MP.

Banerjee accused the Centre of being “vindictive” in its approach following the BJP’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021.

“Have we said we won’t work or give government schemes in the constituencies where we lost the election? The Centre has stopped paying all the dues since the BJP’s defeat in 2021. As many as 17 lakh families under the MNREGA scheme have not been paid. Bengal is facing a financial crisis. Does the Centre knw about this?,” said Abhishek.

Abhishek said, “Bengal is the only state where (Central) money have been stopped. Bengal has its housing scheme, 100 days work, Bengal rural road scheme. [Chief Minister] Mamata Banerjee has already said that we don’t need their money. She has said, “As long as I am there, the project will be in the name of Bengal. I will work for the people of Bengal.”
