After the meeting between the state government and its employees failed to yield any result Friday, the Joint Forum of State Government Employees has now decided to take out a massive protest rally from Hazra Crossing to Harish Chatterjee Street on May 6, demanding the payment of dearness allowance (DA).
Five members of the joint forum held talks with Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi, Home Secretary B P Gopalika and Finance Secretary Manoj Pant on Friday.
Convener of the forum Bhaskar Ghosh said, “We have decided to take out a massive protest rally against the state government on May 6. The rally will start from Hazra Crossing and after covering Harish Chatterjee Street it will culminate at Hazra Crossing.”
Asked about the failed meeting between the government and the employees, Ghosh said, “We will start non-cooperation movements.”
Saket Kumar Jha, a member of the joint forum, said, “We are now going to take out a massive protest rally on May 6. The location is not finalised yet.”
“The outcome of the meeting shows the government is not willing to do anything. They don’t want to resolve the issue. We are adamant on our demands and unless the issue gets resolved, our protest will continue,” added Jha.
Ranjan Kumar Bera, another member of the joint forum, added, “We thought that the meeting would yield a positive result, but the government tried to thwart the verdict of the Calcutta High Court. We have called for a protest rally on May 6. If required, we will intensify our protest.”
