A police Sub-Inspector was killed Friday night after being “accidentally” shot by an ASI at Shyampur police station in Howrah district.

ASI Pradip Ghosh was reloading his service revolver when it “misfired” killing S-I Amal Sarkar, who was seated next to him, said police. The bullet pierced Sarkar’s heart. He was taken to hospital where he was declared “dead on arrival”.

Even though senior police officials have started a departmental inquiry into the incident claiming, the bullet ‘accidentally’ hit the victim,Sarkar’s family has lodged a murder complaint with the police. In the complaint, the family has claimed that Sarkar was murdered in a ‘planned’ manner. Later, the police arrested Ghosh.

“We have started a departmental inquiry. Preliminary probe says the bullet accidentally came out of the service revolver while the ASI was reloading it. We are investigating into the matter,” said B L Meena,SP,Howrah.
