Cop killed after mistakenly shot by junior in Howrah

A police Sub-Inspector was killed Friday night after being accidentally shot by an ASI at Shyampur police station in Howrah district.

ASI Pradip Ghosh was reloading his service revolver when it misfired killing S-I Amal Sarkar,who was seated next to him,said police. The bullet pierced Sarkars heart. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Even though senior police officials have started a departmental inquiry into the incident claiming,the bullet accidentally hit the victim,Sarkars family has lodged a murder complaint with the police. In the complaint,the family has claimed that Sarkar was murdered in a planned manner. Later,the police arrested Ghosh.

We have started a departmental inquiry. Preliminary probe says the bullet accidentally came out of the service revolver while the ASI was reloading it. We are investigating into the matter, said B L Meena,SP,Howrah.
