Cong seeks security citing threat from Trinamool

The Congress on Tuesday asked the West Bengal Election Commissioner to ensure security of its candidates fearing intimidation from ally Trinamool Congress in elections in municipalities in West and East Midnapore districts. “WBPCC demands that both the general and police administration be directed to ensure security to Congress nominees,” PCC general secretary and spokesperson O P Mishra said in a letter to the state Election Commissioner Mira Pande on the municipal elections at Panskura in West Midnapore district and Haldia in East Midnapore district. Alleging that Trinamool Congress might resort to ‘strong arm tactics’ on the last date of withdrawal on May 11,Mishra said there were complaints of harassment and intimidation of Congress nominees in the two municipalities. “We would like to urge you to ensure peaceful conduct of election,” the letter said.
