West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said that an elected chief minister and nominated Governor’s perception might not always be the same as they might not think alike on every issue.
Bose made the remarks during a media interaction at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday to mark a year of his appointment as the Bengal Governor.
“I see the Governor-CM relationship in two levels. As individuals, our relation is very cordial which is based on mutual respect and understanding. As far as the relationship between the Governor and the CM is concerned, the perception may be different because the elected chief minister and the nominated Governor need not necessarily think alike on every issue,” Bose said during the interaction.

The Governor also stressed on the Raj Bhavan’s role as a “bridge between the Centre and the state” and that his office should be a “no-conflict zone”.
Referring to the CM as his constitutional colleague, Bose said, “ ….If you have respect for each other’s point of view…. there is no conflict. We agree to disagree, with all humility. I have never uttered or written a word against my constitutional colleague. But, we have disagreed on issues.”
He also said that in case a conflict (between him and the state government) arises, it can be resolved through “mutual cooperation”.
The Governor also alleged “snooping” attempts in the Raj Bhavan. Citing information shared by “reliable sources”, Bose said he had already informed the concerned authorities about it.
Bose’s remarks come in the wake of a long history of disputes between his office and the Mamata Banerjee-led state government.

In the past, the state government has criticised the Governor over issues like the appointment of interim vice chancellors in universities, in his capacity as chancellor of state-run universities and pending bills sent for his approval.
