Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday filed a complaint against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee for “hurling threats” and “inciting” people by giving a call to gherao BJP leaders’ homes during their party's Martyr’s Day rally in Kolkata. At the ruling party's Marty's Day programme in Kolkata on Friday, TMC's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had called for a “peaceful gherao” of houses of all BJP leaders on August 5 to demand West Bengal's share of funds that were allegedly held by the Centre. The MP from Diamond Harbour and TMC's second-in-command had told the gathering to “not physically assault any one, or get provoked” and “maintain peace, traditions and culture of the state”. According to Adhikari, the “threats hurled” by Abhishek were “supported and illegally validated” by his aunt and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. “The aforesaid threat hurled by Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee of wrongfully restraining and confining the BJP leaders were made by them knowing fully well that the same is illegal and will inter alia amount to violation of the security protocol of myself as well as several other BJP leaders who are protected by the CRPF / CISF etc,” the BJP MLA from Nandigram stated in his complaint that was filed at the Hare Street police station of Kolkata. Adhikari alleged that the chief minister and her nephew “instigated and called upon the supporters of TMC to wrongfully restrain / gherao as well as wrongfully confine BJP leaders.” “What is even more shocking is the tone and tenor and the utter lack of respect towards the leaders of the Opposition party as was exhibited by Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee in course of their speeches.they repeatedly called upon their supporters to wrongfully restrain as well as wrongfully confine the leaders of BJP, thereby making it amply clear that their choice of words were deliberate and well thought,” Adhikari stated in his complaint. Reacting to Adhikari's complaint, Trinamool leader Joyprakash Majumder said, “Suvendu Adhikari has no political aim and roadmap. He has lost all avenues and out of desperation he is doing this. He has no people-to-people connect so, he is now dependent on either police, court or social media.”
