The Calcutta High Court on Friday gave permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) West Bengal unit to hold a rally at Sai Complex in Burdwan on February 16. However, the single bench of Justice Amrita Sinha stipulated conditions for the same. On Thursday, the RSS, West Bengal approached the bench alleging that they were denied permission for the meeting to be addressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at Sai Complex due to their intention to use loudspeakers. The petitioner claimed that the Sub-Divisional Officer of the area had denied permission citing the ongoing secondary examinations by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) being underway. Justice Amrita Sinha said on Friday, "Since it is (scheduled for) a Sunday and it is only a programme of one hour and 15 minutes, the Calcutta High Court does not think anyone will have difficulty." The conditions include conducting the meeting “peacefully” and according to the rules of the WBBSE board examinations. The Centre’s deputy solicitor general Dhiraj Trivedi, appearing as a lawyer for the RSS, said that the meeting will be held at the Sports Authority of India field in Burdwan and they had already obtained permission. He said that there is no school within one and a half kilometres. However, they said they informed police because Bhagwat has Z-plus security.
