Bungling: CID starts probe against V-C

The CID has initiated an inquiry against Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal University of Technology Sabyasachi Sengupta for alleged financial irregularities.

The CID has initiated an inquiry against Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) Sabyasachi Sengupta for alleged financial irregularities.

A few days ago,the higher education department had recommended sacking of the vice-chancellor after different probe committees found him guilty of financial irregularities,favouritism and harassment of teachers and students.

The report has been sent to Governor M K Narayanan,who is the chancellor of the university.

Senior officials of WBUT,however,added that they had formed four probe committees to look into various allegations against the V-C. He pointed out that the Higher Education Advisory Committee under the leadership of Abhirup Sarkar and the Higher Education Council led by Sugata Marjit along with an auditor the matter.

Finally,the higher education department also conducted an independent inquiry. All the inquiries found the allegations against the V-C were true.
