Body found in trunk: woman identified,husband suspect

Two days after her body was found dumped inside a trunk at Canal East Road on Sunday morning,the police was finally able to identify the woman as Swapna Chakraborti.

Two days after her body was found dumped inside a trunk at Canal East Road on Sunday morning,the police was finally able to identify the woman as Swapna Chakraborti.

Swapna,whose throat and wrists had been slit,was a resident of Salt Lake. On Tuesday,a state government employee,Mukul Chakraborti,identified the woman as his daughter.

Her relatives said Swapna was a professional singer and used to perform at different places. She used to stay with her father and her husband Rakesh,at the Baishakhi Government Housing.

Her father had left the house on Friday for Tarapith and when he came back,he could neither find his daughter or his son-in-law. A few months ago,Swapna had married Rakesh after separating from her first husband. Rakesh is also a member of the musical group in which Swapna used to perform.

After the body was identified,police visited the flat where she used to stay. They found many blood stains in the flat,especially in the bathroom,which indicated that Swapna was murdered inside the flat. Little blood was found inside the trunk.

According to the police,the body could have also been kept in an air-conditioned place to delay riggormortis.

The trunk used to dump the body was also identified as Rakesh’s property. The police suspect that Rakesh had murdered his wife after an altercation. Rakesh has links with some local anti-social elements close to notorious criminal Hatkata Dilip. Police said Swapna was also close to Dilip”s fiancee Laila. She also had links with different criminals of the area.
