Bloc MLA gets anticipatory bail
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Forward Bloc MLA Udyan Guha in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker in Dinhata in the run-up to the panchayat polls
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Forward Bloc MLA Udyan Guha in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker in Dinhata in the run-up to the panchayat polls. The Division Bench of Justice N N Mhatre and Justice Kanchan Chakraborty directed the Dinhata MLA to report to the investigating officer once a week. In his plea,Guhas counsel told the court that the police tried to implicate the MLA with a political intent.
Advance festival bonus for staff
The Trinamool Congress government on Tuesday announced festival advance and bonus for government employees and pensioners. Finance Minister Amit Mitra said those getting salaries below Rs 22,000 will be given an ad-hoc bonus of Rs 2,600 which is Rs 100 more than that of last year. A festival advance of Rs 2,500 will be given to those employees drawing salaries between Rs 22,001 and Rs 30,000. Governemnt pensioners,who were paid an ex-gratia of Rs 900 last year,would get Rs 1,000 this year.
Adhir: Defeatist mentality cost us
Congress leader and Union minister Adhir Chaudhury on Tuesday attributed his partys dismal performance in the panchayat polls to its defeatist mentality,but said it would not wither away. A defeatist mentality ate into the party long before the elections as well as organisational weakness, Chaudhury said. Chaudhuri,whose party fared better only on his home turf in Murshidabad,alleged that the Trinamool strengthened the hands of CPM in its bid to finish Congress in the state.
